Dad Jokes<\/strong>– some people find them delightful ,some find them annoying, excruciating to listen to. Personally I’m a fan. That could be because I grew up in a different culture and did not have to listen to my dad and uncles make these jokes every time opportunity presented itself. There are several reasons I love them and you might enjoy them too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are dad jokes?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dad joke<\/strong> is a joke, typically a pun( is a form of word play that exploits multiple meanings of a term) , often presented as a one-liner or a question and answer. I’d like to focus on a part that is play on words and exploiting multiple meanings of a term. It allows you to grapple with idea of similar words that have different meanings<\/strong>, or words where meanings change depending on context<\/strong>. All while having a laugh or two. It’s a great way to really get into nitty gritty of what words mean and where they come from. Below I broke down few dad jokes into simpler terms, dictionary definitions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cheetah<\/strong> – has black spots, is one of fastest animals, comes from cat family.
Cheater<\/strong> is someone who lies or behaves dishonestly. Joke<\/strong>: Both words pronounced the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Space bar<\/strong>– part of any computer keyboard .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bar<\/strong> – a place you can get a drink alcoholic or otherwise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joke:<\/strong> because he’s an astronaut who goes to space and he’s a man he would enjoy going to a space bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shady<\/strong>-slang. Someone untrustworthy, someone doing illegal things or is morally questionable. Shady<\/strong>– can also mean a space with blocked light source. Joke:<\/strong> Trees block the sun and cast shadow by doing so creating shade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes we might find ourselves knowing words<\/strong> but only vaguely<\/strong> that can cause us to have lack of confidence<\/strong> when trying to use the words. By studying jokes this way we deeply understand meanings<\/strong> and gain confidence<\/strong> in using them in our own conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
